36 is the alias of Dennis Huddleston, who has been a prolific and leading figure in the modern ambient scene for close to a decade. Beginning with his debut album Hypersona, he has been sharing his own highly emotive blend of electronic music, which has melted the hearts of music lovers around the globe. He has released his music on labels as diverse as A Strangely Isolated Place, Ultimae and Mystic & Quantum. He also runs his own label 3six Recordings, which he describes as a love affair with the vinyl format. 

The core of the 36 sound is a combination of warm melodies and widescreen atmospheres, that is never shy from the abstract, but one that remains highly accessible. It’s dreamy, introspective midnight music, and the perfect soundtrack for your own strangely isolated place. 

 “I recently discovered that a small group of people live without the ability to visualise things in their mind. This condition is known as Aphantasia. It got me thinking about the nature of how we listen to music. When most people listen to ambient music for example, they tend to imagine places, people, colours or memories… It’s a genre which is often very easy to visualise, so to know that some people will never get to experience this is both sad and fascinating. I wrote this track exploring what it means to “see” music and whether sound alone is enough to make something beautiful.” 

The appeal of ambient music for 36 is the freedom it offers – not being locked down to strict BPM ranges or certain audio palettes can lead to some truly wonderful music. He cites as his musical references Aphex Twin, William Basinski, Boards of Canada, Tangerine Dream and The Future Sound of London.
